The Pelham School District reported key outcomes from its federal/state special-education monitoring at the June 3 school board meeting, telling trustees the district remains in the New Hampshire Department of Education’s 'needs assistance' category largely because of results-based measures rather than compliance failures.
A district student-services lead summarized the PAGS (Program Approval and General Supervision) and LEA determinations processes, telling the board: “We are in the needs assistance category,” and noting that compliance and additional factors were marked as meeting requirements. She said three of five student-file findings related to service-delivery and consult logs; the district has implemented a universal service-delivery log with a consult dropdown and moved nearly to 100% compliance on those records.
The presentation also covered annual-review timelines and an instance where paperwork delays (parent signatures) caused an IEP to be recorded as out of compliance; the district said it has tightened scheduling and follow-up to prevent recurrence and expects full compliance in upcoming re-checks. The superintendent and staff emphasized investments in staffing and documentation systems, and noted Pelham’s preschool outcomes will be a focus of continued curriculum work.
Board members asked for continued data reporting and clarification; administration said they will return with updated metrics and a timeline for remediation steps.
