Pine County board approves consent agenda, promotions and hires; reviews county finances

The Pine County Board of Commissioners on May 19 approved routine consent items, accepted timber-auction results and authorized personnel promotions and new hires during a meeting at the North Pine Government Center in Sandstone.
Vice Chair Roger Nelson opened public comment; John DeGray of Royalton Township spoke during public comment. Commissioners approved an amended agenda on a motion by Commissioner Matt Ludwig, seconded by Commissioner Steve Hallan; the board approved the May 5 minutes and an amended Consent Agenda, each motion carrying 5-0.
The minutes record April 2026 cash balances showing a year-over-year increase in total funds from $22,461,159 to $28,228,871 (an increase of $5,767,712). The board approved April disbursements and an itemized list of claims; notable individual claims listed in the minutes include REDSTONE CONSTRUCTION LLC for $613,797.28, MINNESOTA EQUIPMENT for $221,000.00 and TRITECH SOFTWARE SYSTEMS for $93,381.28. The board also approved a 2026 Federal Supplemental Boating Safety Grant for $4,000 to pay for enforcement hours and acknowledged timber-auction results showing 8,425 cords sold with bids totaling $199,643.
Under personnel items the board approved several promotions effective June 1, including Lori Jensen to Senior Social Worker and Samantha Maser to Senior Social Worker. The board approved promotion of Samantha Tri from Assessment Technician to Property Appraiser (grade 8, step 2) at $28.08 per hour, contingent upon a successful background check. New hires approved include Leah Hansmeier as Health & Human Services Fiscal Officer (effective May 28) and Mallory Greenwaldt as Child Protection Social Worker (effective June 8, contingent upon background check). The Personnel Committee recommendations were approved on a motion by Commissioner Ludwig, seconded by Chair Josh Mohr; motion carried 5-0.
The board approved travel and training requests for public-health staff and highway maintenance workers, and reviewed several regional partner updates during commissioner reports. With no further business, Vice Chair Nelson adjourned the meeting at 10:50 a.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for June 2, 2026 at the Pine County Courthouse.
