Resident urges action on pickleball noise and sanitary concerns near Rainier Trails Park

Uniontown ' During public comment at the May 11 meeting, a resident who identified herself as Sharon urged council to address what she described as a persistent public-nuisance problem caused by pickleball play near her home.

Sharon cited state nuisance law and described repeated noise from courts, alleged incidence of "peeing, defecating in a nearby tree" and an incident she said showed a player exposing herself. "We have endured 6 days of pickleball from 08:30 to 12 on, and there have been players in the evening," Sharon said, describing the repeated, percussive sound of play as disruptive to eating and reading at home and as retraumatizing given her history as a survivor. "I'm at my breaking point," she told the council.

Mayor (acting as the city's executive) gave a point of information and said he had ordered a "sandy can" (porta-potty) delivered to Rainier Trails Park to reduce the risk of public exposure and unsanitary conditions, saying he took the action directly rather than assigning it to Parks: "I ordered the sandy can be shipped there and placed at the park... I did it because I'm the executive branch, and it's my staff." The mayor also said additional porta-potty placement could be coordinated for other parks if needed.

What happens next: The mayor indicated the city will place sanitation resources at Rainier Trails Park. Residents raised broader concerns about noise and nuisance; council members may request follow-up from Parks or Police for enforcement or mitigation options if requested in future agenda items.
