Administrators report steady enrollment; BAR social-emotional grant renewed for third year

Administrators updated the Lisbon School Committee on student counts, programs and external partnerships at the March 9 meeting.
"Student enrollment stands at 270 as of right now," Mr. McKinney said, giving grade-by-grade counts at his site and noting the school had completed five fire drills.
Mr. McKinney said the office had secured a third year of a multiyear state grant to continue a BAR (building assets and reducing risks) social-emotional program and estimated the award at roughly $33,000 per year. He described BAR as a comprehensive, strength-based framework intended to improve academic, social and emotional outcomes and said the grant work is fully funded to the district for its implementation.
Administrators also described ongoing partnerships with the Gulf of Maine Research Institute and LabVenture that provide hands-on ecosystem investigations for students, and said some of that student work has been published in scientific journals.
Mori (LCS) reported districtwide enrollment of 583 students and noted small month-to-month shifts by grade, pre-K registration and a pre-K lottery underway. Mori also described a bus-safety video rolled out to classrooms and that NAEP testing sampled 50 students, with one parent opting out.
Lisa reported 13 day-treatment students (two out of district), the creation of a fourth classroom to accommodate a transfer, and staff openings in special education and ed tech positions; she said all-education students will participate in an April Titan Challenge business competition.
These program updates were informational; no votes were taken. Administrators flagged upcoming events (family engagement night March 18, trimester assembly March 27) and continuing staffing searches.
