Zeeland SARB hears parking updates, construction staging for 123 E. Main demolition

The Shopping Area Redevelopment Board met Jan. 8 in Zeeland and received updates on downtown parking and upcoming construction impacts.
Marketing Director deRoo told the board the 4-hour timed parking in the North and South municipal lots is "going well," and said apartment-tenant overnight parking signs will be installed to reduce confusion during snow events. deRoo also shared a revised map of the North Municipal Parking Lot that shows areas reserved for construction staging tied to the 123 E. Main / Koele Godfrey Investment Group project.
Board members said vehicles, especially those belonging to business owners, continue to park illegally along the curb in the South Parking Lot — including across ramps that serve people with disabilities. The City is coordinating with North Street CRC to determine whether the existing agreement needs amendment to address enforcement or layout changes.
deRoo said a Downtown Parking Working Group will meet Monday, Jan. 12 to compile materials ahead of a meeting with the parking consultant. The group is expected to provide background and requests that the consultant will review; no formal action or vote was recorded on Jan. 8.
The board was also told that the Koele Godfrey Investment Group's fence at 123 E. Main is being installed and utilities have been shut off in preparation for demolition, which is expected the week of Feb. 2-6. Members were warned that staging for that project will temporarily reduce available spaces in the North Municipal Parking Lot; staff characterized the disruption as short-term and tied to the demolition schedule.
No enforcement changes or ordinance amendments were adopted at the meeting; follow-up was directed to staff and to the Downtown Parking Working Group for the consultant engagement.
