Mahwah awards H2M contract for Fardale Avenue culvert, engineering updates show road and water projects moving forward

The Mahwah Township Council authorized a professional engineering contract with H2M Associates on May 4 to support the Fardale Avenue culvert replacement project. The contract covers easement stakeout and shop drawing review during construction and was approved with a not-to-exceed amount of $14,000 (Resolution #190-26).
Township Engineer Mike Kelly reported to the council that the project has obtained a Flood Hazard Area and Freshwater Wetlands permit from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and that submission revisions requested by NJDOT have been addressed and will be re-submitted. Mr. Kelly said bids for the Lawrence Road water-main replacement project were scheduled to be opened on May 5, with an award expected at the May 18 council meeting. He also said milling and paving for the township's 2026 road, curb and sidewalk improvement program is scheduled to start in June and that the bulk of paving work is expected in July during summer school break.
H2M's written proposal (filed with the contract) describes the work as easement stakeout for three property easements and shop drawing review to confirm contractor submittals meet contract requirements. The contract was placed on the public meeting agenda and approved as a professional-services award.
Other infrastructure actions approved under consent included a small change order adding $2,560 to an existing Automated Building Controls municipal HVAC contract to install manual isolation valves for the second and third floors (Resolution #198-26), and multiple paving/engineering line items noted in the meeting's capital summaries.
