Jourdanton council selects two firms to advance 2025 Street Project

The Jourdanton City Council on Feb. 2, 2026 chose two engineering firms to move forward as part of the city's procurement for the 2025 Street Project and directed the city manager to negotiate contracts for council approval.

During a session that included interviews with Freeland Turk, 6S Engineering and Rakowitz Engineering, the council debated which firm or firms should be retained as city engineer for the street work. Mayor Pro Tem Chester Gonzales moved to select two firms; the motion passed with a single negative vote by Councilmember Katrina Wiatrek. Gonzales later moved, and Councilmember Raul Morales seconded, a separate motion directing City Manager Debbie Molina to negotiate contracts with 6S Engineering and Freeland Turk and return negotiated contracts to the council for formal approval; that motion passed unanimously.

Why it matters: The engineering selection starts the procurement-to-contract process for planned street repairs and improvements identified in the 2025 Street Project RFQ. Negotiations will determine scope, price and schedule before the council signs any final contract.

What council decided: The council did not award final contracts at the Feb. 2 meeting. Instead it narrowed the list to 6S Engineering and Freeland Turk and directed staff to negotiate terms and bring the contracts back to the council for vote.

Next steps: City Manager Debbie Molina will negotiate terms with the two firms and present the resulting contracts to the council for approval at a future meeting. No dollar amounts or contract terms were disclosed at the Feb. 2 meeting.

The council recessed twice during deliberations and completed its business the same night.
