The Municipal Authority reported Sept. 23 that it has compiled an inventory of roughly 2,000 customers to help identify potential lead service lines under the EPA’s 'Get the Lead Out' initiative. Council member Michael Deelo reported the inventory and said initial homeowner letters produced many 'unknown' responses because the criteria were vague.
Deelo and Borough Manager Dan Madgar said the criteria were revised, which reduced the number of 'unknown' responses to a couple hundred, and that the authority is meeting with officials to seek funding for lead-line replacement. The report noted the EPA website includes a fact sheet with initiative details for residents.
The Municipal Authority’s accounting of the inventory is presented as preliminary; officials said they are continuing outreach and pursuing funding options. No formal action was taken at the Sept. 23 work session.
