The Colts Neck Township School District superintendent told the board on Sept. 17 that the district has experienced a generally positive start to the 2025–26 school year and that administration is focusing on communication, safety and student transition activities.
"We've received a lot of positivity since the start of the school year," the superintendent said, describing back-to-school nights and Patriot Day programs across schools. The administration said they are coordinating student-representative meetings and noted multiple parent engagement opportunities, including a vocational/high-school planning night scheduled for Sept. 18 at Cedar Drive Middle School.
Assessments: The superintendent reported the state-provided curriculum guidance indicates NJSLA testing will cover grades 4 through 8 and, in many cases, will be based on prior-year standards (for example, 4th graders may be assessed on 3rd-grade end-of-year standards). More detailed scheduling and logistics were described as forthcoming from the administration and the district’s director of curriculum.
Safety/transportation: Board members and the superintendent discussed stop-arm cameras for buses. President Volpe noted the cameras "will serve as a critical tool to ensure that vehicles do not illegally pass buses while students are boarding or exiting." The superintendent said installation is tentatively scheduled for the week of the 13th and that the district is coordinating with vendors and transportation staff to finalize timing.
Parent engagement and PTO: The superintendent and board liaisons emphasized the importance of using established communication channels (rather than social media) to resolve concerns and announced upcoming PTO and parent-advisory activities, including a PTO membership drive through Oct. 2. The administration encouraged parents to attend scheduled nights and to use the district’s chain of communication for questions.
