Council approves revised warrant moving June town meeting to high school, adds police fiscal note

The Windham Town Council voted unanimously on June 3 to approve a revised warrant for the June 13, 2026 annual town meeting, changing the venue to the high school auditorium and adding a fiscal-note description for an additional police officer position.

Councilor Morrison, presiding as chair, opened the special meeting and called for consideration of the revised warrant under general orders 26-124. A motion to approve the revised warrant was moved and seconded and then put to a vote; the motion passed unanimously.

Town Manager said staff had confirmed availability with the high school and met with faculty to secure the auditorium. “We have confirmed that with the school and have met with their faculty, and it is open for us,” the Town Manager said, explaining the venue change was meant to address anticipated larger turnout for what could be a busier, possibly final in-person town meeting.

The manager also said the revised warrant includes clarified language under Article 18 — a fiscal-note entry describing budget implications for an additional police officer — and that the added wording was provided by the police chief. The council did not debate the revised fiscal note at length during the special meeting.

The council recorded the action as approved by unanimous vote. The town will proceed with preparations for the June 13 meeting at the high school auditorium and with any follow-up necessary to reflect the added fiscal-note language in the warrant materials.
