West Milwaukee board to review overnight-parking policy after resident complaint

Police Chief Randolph told the board that a dispatcher denied the request after checking the license and applying an internal rule, in place since at least 2008, that vehicles plated to the village are not eligible for temporary overnight parking permission. The chief said Sergeant Munoz had attempted to contact the complainant and that staff pulled and reviewed the call when the complaint was received.
Trustee John Ragonese questioned whether the internal rule should remain in force if it is not reflected in the village municipal code. Trustee Todd Hill argued the board should not abandon the operational rule outright because it was developed to address past abuse patterns and recommended updating the municipal code to reflect the policy if that is appropriate. President Stalewski directed the matter be referred to committee so staff can reconcile the internal policy with the municipal code and ensure residents are offered alternatives rather than being left without recourse.
The board did not take formal action to change the rule at the meeting; trustees asked staff to compare the 2008 internal policy to current code and return with recommendations.
