Edinburg council authorizes negotiations with national golf management firm to run city courses

At its June 2 meeting the Edinburg City Council authorized staff to negotiate a contract with Trune (a national golf-management firm) to operate and help professionalize the city’s two municipal golf courses. City procurement staff said seven proposals were received, four finalists interviewed and Trune ranked highest on the evaluation rubric.
Assistant City Manager said the objective is to increase revenue and reduce operating costs by applying private-sector management expertise to course operations, food and beverage, pro-shop merchandising and capital improvement planning. Trune’s regional representative told council the firm manages hundreds of engagements nationwide and is prepared to begin work pending a negotiated contract that would return to council for final approval.
Council emphasized that the city would remain the owner of the courses and retain final approval authority; the authorization at the meeting only allows staff to negotiate terms. The council approved the consent agenda motion that included the authorization to begin negotiations.
Next steps: staff will negotiate a contract and bring the final agreement back to council for a vote.
