Cohasset committee approves March minutes as paving quotes squeeze 2026 budget

The Town of Cohasset Sidewalk and Safety Committee approved its March 25, 2026 minutes by a 5‑0 vote before focusing on this summer's paving plans. Chair Jay Pimpari moved to approve the minutes; Frank Chicetti seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Brian, speaking for town public‑works staff, said this year's paving list includes Forest Avenue and North Main Street alongside smaller sections such as Lynen and James Lane. He told the committee that contractor TL Edwards returned quotes that, combined with current budget figures, mean the town is close to its fiscal limit for paving this year. "We hit our budget limit on the Forest Avenue and North Main Street sections," Brian said, and provided combined totals that put the town's paving program at about $1.25 million when combining the town allotment and other available funds.
Brian identified individual quote figures during the meeting and said the town's budget (roughly $900,000 plus about $350,000 available) leaves the committee likely limited to the two major roads in 2026 unless smaller quotes come back lower than expected. He said town staff hope paving work will take place in mid‑ to late summer pending contractor scheduling.
The committee heard that some paving work for school campuses and certain projects is funded outside the town paving budget and may proceed separately. The meeting closed with assignments for members to review local roads ahead of a fall plan deadline to DPW.
