Board renews superintendent's contract for three years

The Colts Neck Township Board of Education voted Oct. 15 to renew Superintendent Dr. Garvey's contract for three years, covering July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2028.

Board members said the renewal reflected confidence in Garvey's leadership and his management of recent district challenges. In remarks during the personnel portion of the meeting, several trustees thanked Garvey for what they called steady communication and decisive action after an elementary-school water-supply failure earlier in the week.

The personnel consent package that included the superintendent's contract was approved by roll call. The board recorded affirmative votes from Mrs. Cameron, Mrs. Harowitz, Mr. Rico, Mrs. Ramirez, Mr. Retta, Mr. Scarpa, Mrs. Bulpi and Mr. Walsh; one board member noted a recusal on unrelated items earlier in the agenda. The motion passed.

The superintendent made closing remarks that reiterated the district's strategic priorities for 2025—26, including data-driven instruction, a feasibility study on middle-school career and technical education, technology guidance and facility stewardship. He also thanked staff and trustees for the team response that kept the elementary school open after the water incident.

Board members did not provide salary or contract-term financial details during the public discussion beyond the contract's effective dates. The board said administrative staff will post required documents on the district website as appropriate.

The board's next regular meeting will include standing agenda items and any follow-up reports requested by trustees.
