Superintendent says district won $4,150 grant to expand universal reading screeners

Superintendent Dr. Garvey told the board on July 23 that the district received a $4,150 Focus Grant awarded July 14 to support adoption and implementation of high-quality universal reading screeners and related staff training.
Dr. Garvey said the funding will help the district pursue certification in evidence-based reading programs (for example, Orton-Gillingham or Wilson approaches) and support tiered interventions to improve student reading comprehension. "Every little dollar helps," Dr. Garvey said, noting the district will continue to pursue grants where eligible.
The superintendent also described operational work underway over the summer — website link fixes after a transition, preparation for the annual audit, facilities cleaning, and summer bridge and band programs — and said district goals for 2025–26 will be brought to the board for approval in September.
