Student representatives presented proposals at the Feb. 18 meeting of the Colts Neck Township Board of Education aimed at expanding student supports and extracurricular fundraising.
Student representative Diener described a proposed "Kindness Club" (shortened to "CC" in her remarks) that would create a safe space for students who struggle socially. Diener said the club could run on Wednesdays or Thursdays, be hosted by a teacher adviser and provide activities, craft time and peer support. She also proposed a $5 fun run around Bucks Mill as a fundraiser for mental‑health awareness, with proceeds earmarked for classroom materials to support mental‑health education. (Diener)
Sophia Boucher told the board she had developed a Google form to collect student feedback on cafeteria offerings, particularly to accommodate special dietary needs and preferences; she said results would be compiled quickly and shared with administrators. Board members and Dr. Garibay discussed logistics such as adviser assignments, timing for clubs and whether ideas could integrate with existing clubs (for example, the Make a Difference Club) or be piloted next school year.
Dr. Garibay and board liaisons encouraged students to coordinate with staff and said they would discuss the proposals further at an upcoming meeting. The board noted that the popcorn fundraiser will run in March–April and that student suggestions could be folded into future planning for events and trips.
