Oak Bluffs Board of Assessors approves motor vehicle commitments, abatements and exemptions

The Oak Bluffs Board of Assessors on Jan. 22, 2026, unanimously approved a series of routine tax items, including Motor Vehicle Commitment #7 of 2025, motor vehicle abatements and four exemption applications. The meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m. and adjourned at 3:22 p.m.
Board members Jack Law, Joseph Sollitto and Melanie Bilodeau voted 3-0 to approve the minutes from the Dec. 18, 2025 meeting. The board then reviewed Motor Vehicle Commitment #7 of 2025, which the minutes record contained 168 bills for a total of $8,053.40 in tax; the board approved the commitment by unanimous vote. The minutes also state that Motor Vehicle Commitment #1 of 2026 was held for the next meeting with no action taken.
The board approved motor vehicle tax abatements totaling $236.26, again by a 3-0 vote. Members also approved two residential exemption applications and two veteran exemption applications listed as '22' and '22E'; the minutes record the motion carried unanimously.
Staff in attendance included D. Potter, Town Administrator; D. Barnes, Principal Assessor; and M. Thompson, Assistant Assessor. The minutes note an Assessors update and a review of 2026 real-estate abatement applications during staff discussion. The board did not enter executive session during the meeting.
The meeting closed on a motion that carried 3-0 and adjourned at 3:22 p.m. Motor Vehicle Commitment #1 of 2026 was deferred to the next meeting for further action.
