At the May 29 meeting, Millville commissioners introduced for first reading an ordinance amending Municipal Code Chapter 56 to update sewer and water fees, including bulk-water and tap charges that have not been adjusted in roughly a decade.
City staff explained the proposed change will mature fees to cover equipment and operational costs and make Millville competitive with neighboring towns that previously paid more. Staff said current charges are “less than the equipment cost in most cases” and noted bulk-water customers sometimes travel in from other jurisdictions to fill tanker trucks because Millville’s price is low.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about which customers are affected and whether the proposed fees cover people who buy bulk water and tankers from the system; staff confirmed the ordinance covers those bulk-water purchases. No vote on final adoption occurred at first reading; the ordinance will return for subsequent readings per the chartered process.
