Superintendent Dr. Highland praised at final North Allegheny board meeting

North Allegheny School District Superintendent Dr. Highland received sustained applause and multiple tributes at his final board meeting on June 3 after three years leading the district.
Board members publicly recognized Highland’s work on the district strategic plan, safety improvements, labor relations, policy updates and facilities progress. "You brought together nine board members with different views and priorities," one board member said, praising Highland’s team approach and transparency.
In his prepared remarks, Highland thanked students, staff, administrators, his executive assistant and his family. "Serving as superintendent of this district has been the honor of my life," he said, and urged the board to "just keep it rolling" as leadership transitions proceed. He also referenced the incoming leadership, wishing "Mr. Duramo" the best as he assumes the role of superintendent, per Highland’s remarks in the meeting.
Community members and board members in turn offered personal thanks and best wishes. Several speakers noted Highland’s emphasis on student opportunities and his work on facilities and the district’s strategic plan. The board adjourned after the farewell.
