Colts Neck board approves routine actions, highlights $371,000 energy rebate and plans website portal

The Colts Neck Township Board of Education on Jan. 22 approved a slate of routine action items including superintendent items 1–4 and finance and personnel motions. Several votes were taken by roll call; superintendent action items carried and finance and personnel motions were approved after limited discussion.
Kevin Walsh, buildings and grounds chair, said the district received a $371,000 rebate on Jan. 10 related to energy‑saving infrastructure and that total reimbursements tied to facility investments amount to about $530,000. "It's paying for itself ... solar installation is ongoing," Walsh said, and he described recent gym sound‑panel and lighting improvements at Cedar Drive Middle School.
Board members also discussed procurement for an electrical vendor and asked Mr. Morasco to explain the selection process. Morasco said the district uses the Ed Services Commission and state contract vehicles for vetted vendors; the project did not require formal advertisement under the contract used.
The board approved personnel items that included recognition of maintenance worker Andre Rodriguez, who will retire after 28 years of service; members praised his institutional knowledge and discussed transition planning.
Communications liaisons announced plans to open a second public comments portal at meetings and to build a website 'conversation portal' to increase transparency on multi‑phase buildout projects. The board also scheduled ethics training presented by the New Jersey School Boards Association later in the meeting.
