Professional societies brief board on workforce development, report card and advocacy plans

Representatives from three professional societies reported to the board June 4.
Casey Anderson (ACC Tennessee) said ACC National adopted a strategic plan prioritizing protection of state licensure structures and workforce development. Anderson highlighted an 800-person ACC partner conference, efforts on biometrics in testing, and a leadership program for mid-career PEs; she invited the board to participate in the Tennessee Engineers Conference Sept. 20–22.
Suzanne Herren (ASCE Tennessee) said the Tennessee section will begin the 2026 infrastructure report-card process this fall, noting the last full report was in 2022. The report-card process evaluates statewide infrastructure across multiple categories and typically takes about a year.
Anita Ryan (ASID/IIDA Tennessee) recapped legislative developments that preserved title protections and registration for interior designers, announced advocacy events (Oct. 22) and conferences, and described student and outreach programming including partnerships for STEM events and student recognition in national competitions.
Why it matters: Workforce development, licensure protection and public education efforts by professional societies intersect with board oversight of registrant pathways and public protection.
What’s next: Societies will coordinate with board staff on outreach and may request board participation in conferences and advocacy events.
