The Whitley County Board of Commissioners handled a slate of routine approvals and consent items at its June 1 meeting.
Ian Desh, speaking for the YMCA corporate challenge, said the county team fee is $600, that a team may include up to 25 participants and that 17 county employees had already signed up. A motion to approve payment of the $600 entry fee carried by voice vote.
The board approved a notice to bidders for the highway department to solicit bids for a vac/jeter trailer to clean drains and safely excavate around buried cables after highway director Ryan Gets said county staff and the county engineer had previously discussed the purchase.
Council on Aging certifications and assurances that were missed from the previous packet were approved; Beth Turner, on behalf of Columbia City Elks No. 1417, received permission to use the courthouse north monument area for a Flag Day ceremony on June 13 (about 10 participants plus the public). The board also approved a conflict‑of‑interest disclosure related to a county‑contract mower whose wife works part‑time in the recorder’s office, reviewed payroll and accounts payable claims and approved minutes from May 18, 2026. Public comment produced no speakers and the meeting was adjourned.
