The MSAD 51 board approved several governance and planning items on June 3 in a series of routine motions.
The board unanimously approved a motion to move the equity leadership steering committee from a board‑level committee to an administrative (district) committee. The committee recommended the change because most action steps in the equity plan are executed by the district leadership team. The new structure will keep board representation but place the committee’s operational work with administration; the group recommended continued communication channels between the committee and the board.
The board also unanimously approved the long‑term facilities plan and adopted a new four‑year strategic priorities plan. Administrators said the new strategic plan replaces an earlier multi‑year plan and that progress trackers and status reports will be posted on the district website.
Other approved items during the meeting’s action block included adopting the district policy on free and reduced‑price meals (policy EFC) — with the board noting the state now provides free school meals — and approving several professional position hires (middle‑school and elementary roles) listed in the personnel packet. Board members praised the quality of the applicant pools that produced the hires.
Why it matters: the governance change for the equity committee centers execution with district staff while preserving board oversight; approving the facilities and strategic plans sets multi‑year direction for capital and academic priorities; and the personnel approvals maintain staffing for next year.
What’s next: administration will post the strategic plan and the athletic and early‑childhood presentations on the website and will return with implementation details for major items as needed.
