Council members praise Memorial Day parade, new businesses and VFW memorial gift

Council members at the June 1 meeting spent part of the agenda offering community updates and recognition following Memorial Day events.
Mayor Rosepa thanked parade organizers and the VFW post for their role in the memorial dedication and noted a strong turnout despite poor weather. Councilmembers Benadetti, Hornbeck, Puerie, Kabowat, Rodriguez and Bone Krooks each expressed appreciation for volunteers and local organizations. Councilwoman Bone Krooks said she and City Administrator Dean Creech were “overwhelmed” by the scope of the VFW’s donation, which she described in the meeting as “over a quarter of a million dollars” contributed to the project.
Councilmembers also celebrated three recent ribbon cuttings—Mitten Pharmacy, Art and Stuff, and the Stitchers Grotto—and encouraged residents to visit the new businesses. Councilwoman Rodriguez highlighted a soft opening for Art and Stuff and noted the DDA’s involvement.
No members of the public spoke during the public-comment period reserved for non-agenda items, and the council adjourned at 7:19 p.m.
