Trenton council names nine residents to Development Area Citizens Council; mayor abstains from vote

The Trenton City Council on June 1 approved appointments to a nine-member Development Area Citizens Council (DACC) and one Historical Commission appointment, a step city leaders say is required to update the DDA tax-increment financing (TIF) and development plan.
Angelia, a city staff member speaking to the council, described the DACC as “a nine-member development area citizens council which contains nine Trenton residents that live within the DDA district,” whose role is advisory and activated when the DDA needs to update the plan. Angelia said the DACC will meet only as needed until a new development plan is adopted.
Mayor Rosepa moved the slate of appointments. During a roll-call vote the clerk recorded yes votes from Councilmembers Benadetti, Keaton, Hornbeck, Peruji, Rodriguez and Bone Krooks; Mayor Rosepa recorded an abstention. The motion passed.
Council members asked staff to confirm that the DACC’s duties will include providing resident feedback on specific projects such as streetscape work, and Angelia reiterated that because the council includes residents who live in the district the DACC helps ensure proposed changes reflect neighborhood preferences.
The council took the appointment vote early in the meeting; no public commenters addressed the appointments during the period reserved for agenda-related public comments.
The development area council appointments are for terms expiring June 1, 2029. The council did not provide additional detail on the appointees’ backgrounds in the meeting record. Next steps for the DACC include convening the panel when the DDA moves forward with the formal TIF or plan-update process.
