The Urbandale City Council approved an agreement with Mid-Iowa Health Foundation to fund a study on the most effective length of emergency rental assistance.
Curtis told the council the project (budgeted at $50,000 in the recommended budget) will start in late summer and run through about September 2028, enrolling approximately 675 participants. The research will include community conversations — with the Urbandale Public Library already engaged — and will test how different assistance durations affect household stability following economic crises.
Curtis credited Dr. Nila Johnson and local partners for designing the study and said the project will include outreach and interim reporting; the council approved the associated resolution and the agreement.
