The Taylor Town Council on March 5 authorized the town manager to advertise remaining lots at the Taylor Airport Industrial Park using a request for proposals (RFP) process intended to attract businesses that will operate on site and generate jobs and sales tax.
Town Manager Gus Lundberg told councilors that phase two of the industrial park has roads nearly completed and that previous lot sales tended to favor developers who build rental space rather than businesses that provide local employment. Councilors said an RFP would allow the town to weigh proposals based on economic benefit, require operating commitments, and negotiate terms rather than simply accepting the highest bid.
Council Member Bill Baldwin made the motion to proceed with an RFP; Lynn Dewitt seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Next steps: staff will draft RFP language and return to council with recommended selection criteria and timelines.
