County receives four bids for Colfax Avenue bridge rehabilitation, forwards them to public works

The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners on June 2 opened four bids for project S 215-26 — the Colfax Avenue bridge rehabilitation over the Saint Joseph River — and unanimously voted to send those bids to public works for review and an award recommendation.
Adam Via, of the Department of Infrastructure Planning and Growth, told the board the work includes intersection improvements at MLK, new rails and lighting, sidewalk replacements, a full deck overlay and an approach slab replacement on the east end, and that the project coordinates with the City of South Bend. Via read the bids: ICC Group (Illinois) $5,313,300; Milestone Contractors (South Bend) $5,726,500; Beatty Construction $6,511,006; and Reece Riley Construction (South Bend) $6,811,915.90. “This includes intersection improvements at MLK as well as new rails, lighting, replacing some sidewalks, full deck overlay, and the approach slab replacement on the east end,” Via said.
After the bid reading, a commissioner moved to turn the bids over to public works for review and award recommendation; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The roll call as recorded in the meeting shows affirmative votes from the three commissioners polled.
Public works will review the submissions and return to the board with a recommendation for award. No award decision was made at the June 2 meeting.
