At its June 25 meeting the Colts Neck Township Board of Education approved a slate of routine agenda items across multiple sections of the agenda, carrying motions to approve grouped items by roll call.
The board approved action items 1 through 10 as a block; the vote included a prior abstention recorded earlier in the meeting on the May 7 minutes by Mrs. Ramirez. The board then approved buildings-and-grounds items one and two, curriculum items one through five, finance items one through 28, policy item P1, transportation items one through three, and personnel items one through 24. Every presented block passed by roll call.
During finance discussion board members singled out two summer security staff members by name (Pat and Aldo) and thanked them for summer coverage. In transportation, the superintendent and transportation staff said the district's fleet had recently been refreshed using stabilization aid and that the district continues to explore joint runs and private-school routes as potential revenue sources. On personnel, the board asked for clarification about substitute-teacher requirements; administrators explained the state requires a county substitute certificate (commonly an associate-level credential, about 60 college credits) for daily substitutes and that a certified teacher must be assigned if one person serves 20 consecutive days in the same classroom.
Board members also asked the buildings-and-grounds team to confirm procurement specifications (for example, whether materials must be American-made) with their architect before contracts proceed.
The board accepted the retirement of instructional assistant Kathy Jazinski, who the superintendent said served 10.5 years.
What happens next: the responsible departments will carry out routine implementation steps (finance processing, HR onboarding and certification checks, procurement specification confirmation) and report back in subsequent committee and board meetings.
