Board highlights Autism Acceptance Month, hears community praise for veterans education program

Board members used the April 29 meeting to recognize April as Autism Acceptance Month and to highlight community programming and events. In the president’s report the board said it is proud to support students with autism and thanked staff, related service providers and board-certified behavior analysts for their work.
The board discussed a possible partnership with Sunflower for Soldiers, naming Megan B. Solomon as the organization’s president. Resident Alan Ryan urged the board to consider the group’s tours to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial as a learning opportunity for students and praised the district’s support for special-needs students, saying his son "thrives" and benefited from district services.
Liaisons and community representatives also promoted a slate of upcoming activities: a PTO second-grade carnival (May 29), teacher appreciation week (May 4–8), a district calendar contest with cash prizes donated by the Colts Neck Historical Society, a June 14 flag-football tournament and other Sports Foundation events. Board members encouraged families to subscribe to the district newsletter and to participate in town 250th-anniversary activities.
The meeting closed public comment after additional compliments to the board and a reminder to residents to raise budget questions in person at finance presentations rather than relying on online posts. The board moved into executive session to discuss confidential legal matters.
