The board moved action items one through three and recorded roll-call support: Mrs. Cameron, Mrs. Horowitz, Mr. Rico, Mr. Rignana, Mr. Scales, Mr. Scarpa (joined remotely), Mrs. Volpe, Mr. Walsh and Mr. Whitbeck all voted yes, carrying the motion. The buildings and grounds package, which included adoption of dates for the Summer Bridge Program, passed unanimously; board members described the program as free for district families and discussed extending it by a week next year.
The board approved curriculum items one and two following brief remarks thanking teachers who mentor student teachers. On personnel, the board moved items one through 16; the roll call recorded yes votes with Mr. Rigney recusing himself from items three through six. The motion carried.
Superintendent Dr. Garabedian had earlier reminded the public that kindergarten registration is open and outlined testing dates for the New Jersey Student Learning Standards assessments that begin May 11. In the meeting’s new-business discussion several board members also defended the district’s budgeting work, noting the district has achieved a zero tax increase three years running and urging residents to raise questions at public meetings rather than rely on social media commentary.
No additional actions were taken in open session after the votes. The board subsequently moved into an executive session to discuss confidential legal matters.
