Personnel committee advances volunteer slate after split over CDA nominee

Chair opened the discussion by thanking residents “for applying” and noting “it is a really great list of candidates” and strong community engagement in the volunteer process.
A committee member then made the case for Bill Meyer for the CDA, saying, “Mr. Meyer’s background is broad and deep” and that his application showed experience with subsidized and affordable housing that could be useful moving forward. Another committee member objected to changing an earlier recommendation, citing local ties and worries about process and transparency and saying the reasons for rearranging nominees “seem fairly arbitrary.”
After initial discussion a member moved to recommend a full slate of appointments (including several CDA, parks, conservation and library nominees) for village board approval at the June 15, 2026 meeting; that motion failed for lack of a second. A second motion — which replaced one CDA nominee with an alternate and otherwise named the same slate of candidates — was made, seconded and discussed. One committee member said they supported most volunteers but would vote against the motion specifically because of the CDA choice. The committee approved the second motion on a voice vote recorded as two in favor and one opposed.
The approved slate will be forwarded to the village board for formal consideration at its June 15 meeting. No formal motions to reconsider or to refer the CDA appointment back to staff were recorded during the personnel committee meeting.
What happens next: the village board will receive the committee’s recommended slate on June 15, 2026, where the appointments will be noted on the consent agenda or considered individually per board practice.
