City parks staff briefed the council on an opportunity to apply for a Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) boating-access grant to support Lakeshore Park work, and council members directed staff to pursue the application.
Mr. Dobson, speaking for parks staff, said the grant matches many elements of the Lakeshore Park project — boat launches, docks, dredging and signage — and noted that the grant is typically a reimbursement program covering about 75% of eligible costs. "This grant would allow additional funding that we could use for that project," Dobson said, and he emphasized that the city can withdraw the application if competitive bids for the park come in lower than expected.
Staff noted applications are due Feb. 1 and that award announcements typically follow the next May; they also said the council would need to pass a resolution at a later meeting to certify that matching funds would be available if the grant is awarded. Council members expressed support for pursuing the grant and asked staff to begin the application process.
The council gave direction to proceed; staff will return with a resolution and funding plan as required by grant rules if the project advances.
