Commission approves 2026 county special alcohol fund awards recommended by JCAB

Jesse Hardford of Riley County Community Corrections summarized the JCAB review process and the statutory requirement that special alcohol tax funds be used principally for prevention and treatment of alcoholism and drug abuse. JCAB recommended full funding for Beable ($10,000), Riley County Community Corrections ($5,866.95) and Pony Mental Health ($5,200). The House Cafe's request for $15,000 included a $10,000 component for an early learning center that JCAB found outside the statute's allowable uses; JCAB therefore approved $5,000 for local youth and teen-center events.
Hardford said the account balance at the time was roughly $29,697.52, and the awards as approved would leave an estimated balance of about $3,630 to carry forward. Commissioners discussed whether to prioritize direct services over conference/training travel in future rounds but approved the JCAB recommendation on the record.
