Residents press Allegheny Township on stormwater as engineers outline issues

Multiple residents told the Allegheny Township Board of Supervisors on April 14 that stormwater is causing property impacts across the township, and township engineers delivered a technical briefing that outlined causes and potential remediation steps.

At the meeting, residents including Brian Dunaway of Willowbrook Country Club, Adam Mason, Robert Goldstrom and others raised repeated concerns about drainage, erosion and localized flooding. The engineers described hydrologic factors and field-level options for mitigation and answered follow-up questions about whether prior stormwater actions would qualify for credit under township rules.

Other attendees raised related concerns: Lou Bertha questioned township finances in the context of needed infrastructure work, and Joe Hessom raised questions about spending, the budget and Right-to-Know procedures. Christine Ashbaugh asked about a proposed or existing gas station at the end of McCutcheon Short Cut and potential stormwater impacts there.

The engineers' presentation focused on identifying problem drainage areas and potential corrective measures and noted that eligibility for stormwater credits depends on whether previous work met specific ordinance standards. Supervisors referenced prior ordinance No. 1-2021 during the discussion and asked staff to track crediting for previously completed projects.

The session did not produce a formal vote or new stormwater policy; it served as an information and Q&A opportunity and generated direction for staff to follow up with more detail on credits and next steps.
