Parent advisory and WISD leaders outline county special‑education compliance supports

Andrea Bennick and Norton reported to the Milan Area Schools Board on recent WISD PAC activity and county special‑education work.
Bennick summarized a state LRE compliance monitoring process that prompted a countywide gap analysis identifying the need for more services in the continuum between full inclusion and alternative placements. She said the state has assigned a liaison to the WISD to support reforms over the next six years and that district directors and the PAC were briefed on the report. The PAC will work with the WISD to identify resources, professional development and possible programmatic supports such as expanded resource‑room or behavioral supports to meet students’ needs across the continuum.
Locally, Bennick said she and colleagues met parents and discussed hopes for new leadership and plans to update Milan Area Schools’ special‑education guidebook; the PAC intends to distribute the updated guide to families and attend district open houses in August to increase outreach. Trustees thanked the PAC members for their work and noted the importance of sensory‑friendly events and soft introductions for students who need them.
There was no board vote on the report; it was received for information and follow up.
