The Milan Area Schools Board unanimously approved an update to sex‑education classroom materials and ratified the 2026–27 membership for the sex‑education advisory board.
Superintendent McMahon said the advisory board follows a two‑year cycle for curriculum review; this year was not a curriculum revision year, but the high‑school health teacher identified 13 videos that update the existing materials without changing grade levels. “It doesn’t change critical content or move grade levels — it’s just updated materials,” McMahon said.
The materials were reviewed by the sex‑education advisory committee, presented at two public meetings (one earlier and one the day of the board’s public review), and recommended for final approval. Trustees also approved the advisory‑board membership and co‑chairs as required by state law and noted that the district nurse position on the committee will be filled once the ISD names a successor (Nurse Dawn is retiring).
The motion to approve the materials and the committee membership passed 7–0.
