Residents praise Oldsmar BMX track; council appoints local volunteers to parks board

"It is money extremely well spent," Lair said, praising the track’s coaching and opportunities for beginners through pros.
Parents Jill and Reed Watson and longtime resident Dusty Showers echoed those remarks, describing mentorship, community events and volunteer maintenance. Amber Stevens raised two personnel recommendations and asked the council to appoint Jim Mascarenus as a regular member and Jillian Watson as the alternate for the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board.
Council considered both appointments during the consent/appointments portion of the meeting. After brief remarks from the nominees, the council voted to appoint Jillian Watson to the alternate position and Jim Mascarenus to a regular member seat to fill terms through Jan. 16, 2028. Both motions passed unanimously.
Why it matters: The public comments underscored the track’s role in youth sports and neighborhood volunteerism; the newly appointed advisory board members will participate in parks programming and outreach efforts such as the city’s park survey.
