The New Ulm City Council on June 2 authorized city staff to accept a federal congressionally directed spending grant and a state MnDOT Office of Aeronautics grant to construct a new crosswind runway at the New Ulm Municipal Airport.
Staff said the federal grant would cover about 95% of the project costs and the state grant approximately 2.5%. The federal project identifier recorded in the meeting packet is listed as 3-27007-28 20226; the MnDOT project reference in the packet is A0801-88 (agreement number TBD).
The resolution granted preapproval to accept the grants and authorized the city manager and city attorney to execute the federal offer when received and the city manager and finance director to execute any amendments. Director Jorgensson conducted a recorded roll call on both measures; Counselors Christian, Wormka, Schmidt, Mack and President Becker voted yes on each preapproval.
The actions allow staff to finalize grant agreements when the offers arrive from the Federal Aviation Administration and MnDOT; construction timing and the project budget will be developed as the grants are executed and any required local match is confirmed.
Next steps: staff to execute grant offers when received and to return to council with any amendments or required local match details.
