Mount Clemens honors volunteer Michelle Weiss and previews summer events

The Mount Clemens City Commission honored Michelle "Mickey" Weiss on June 1 with an outstanding-volunteer recognition for her work supporting the Mount Clemens Santa parade. Savannah, speaking on behalf of Macomb County Commissioner Antonet Wallace, said Michelle "volunteered for over 150 hours in 2025 to support the Mount Clemens Santa parade," listing contract coordination, sponsor outreach, costume fittings and volunteer management among her responsibilities.
Michelle Weiss accepted the award and thanked the commission and community, describing her involvement as a long-standing, behind-the-scenes commitment to Mount Clemens. Commissioners and attendees praised Weiss’s energy and persistence, saying she routinely helps organize events, assists local businesses and supports emergency response efforts when needed.
City Manager Mr. Shipman used the staff report to update the commission on several completed and upcoming projects tied to downtown revitalization. He said the downtown development authority will install signage to mark the city’s social district, allowing to-go beverage service within designated district boundaries so long as patrons remain in the district. Shipman also noted ongoing street-repair work, the near-completion of a spring sidewalk program in District 2, and that pre-construction has begun on an expanded playground at K’s Community Center.
Commissioners also highlighted a slate of summer events: Uptown Friday Night concerts, the Mount Clemens Car Cruise and Show (June 6), a social-district cornhole tournament (June 20), a summer celebration at K’s Community Center (June 12), and a fireworks display planned for Friday, June 26. The commission encouraged residents to consult city webpages and contact the recreation department for details and volunteer opportunities.
The presentation and the managers’ event updates drew repeated recognition of local volunteers and community partners who helped complete the downtown revitalization project and support year-round programming.
