Residents urge council to block 83‑unit Macedonia development over parking and safety worries

Multiple residents told the Township of Piscataway council that a proposed 83‑unit development at the Macedonia property is inappropriate for the site and will overwhelm local streets.
Syed Ahmed, who identified himself during public comment, said the project "is estimated to add 120 to 160 new vehicles" to nearby residential streets and presented photographs showing current congestion near schools and places of worship. "When the school bus is stuck," Ahmed said, the resulting traffic creates an "incredibly unsafe, traffic environment."
Other residents echoed those concerns. Doretta Gray said the parcel is too small for a large apartment building and emphasized parking and school-safety impacts. Jeff Williams said the project "does not belong in our neighborhoods" and urged the council to reconsider the site choice while stating he supports affordable housing in general.
Councilwoman Carmichael, representing the ward that includes the affected streets, thanked residents and said she supports their concerns, promising to work with township staff to "come back with a plan that makes sense for your neighborhood and for Piscataway." The council did not take an immediate vote; members said further review and responses from planning and engineering staff will follow.
Speakers asked the town to consider parcel size, parking counts and emergency access in any review of the proposal. Officials told speakers that additional materials and staff analysis would be provided in ensuing planning sessions.
