Harb approved a conditioned certificate of appropriateness for a porch enclosure at 208 Bloomingdale Ave presented by co-owner Don Eckard.
Eckard told the board he and his co-owner, Didi, plan to enclose the front porch with a knee wall and double-hung windows that match the house’s existing windows. He said the work is a do-it-yourself project and apologized for hand-drawn elevations, adding that the goal was to reduce dust, noise and insects and make the porch usable for more of the year. Eckard said the porch will not change the footprint or roof line and that the storm doors will be Larson brand.
Board members concentrated on window light patterns and the appearance of the storm/entry doors. Several members asked that the paneling under the windows carry through to the proposed double doors so the base lines match. Eckard agreed that raising the door sill or adding a matching panel would be acceptable "that's fine." Committee member (S3) moved approval with the condition that the base of the double doors match the surrounding knee-wall design; Committee member (S2) seconded and the chair called for a vote. The transcript records vocal approval and the chair announced the motion carried; no roll-call tally appears in the record.
Eckard emphasized that the project is not conditioned space and that it is intended to remain a porch. The board approved the enclosure with the noted design condition and encouraged the applicant to provide finalized elevations that show the carried knee-wall detail.
