City to remove aging playground equipment at Don Morse Park after safety inspection

Parks and Recreation Director (speaker 14) told Chelan City Council on April 14 that an inspection of Don Morse Park playground found several elements no longer meet safety standards and cannot be repaired because the original manufacturer is no longer in business.
"There are a couple of elements within the playground at Don Morse Park that are not meeting safety standards... the manufacturer that produces that equipment is no longer in existence as a company and replacement parts cannot be purchased," the director said, and recommended removal of the affected equipment to protect public safety. The director added the playground lacks ADA accessibility and that the site is a strong candidate for future capital investment to replace aging equipment with accessible, current‑standard play structures.
Council members thanked staff and noted the park’s condition had been flagged in prior planning work; staff said removals would occur in the coming days and that the council could consider funding a larger replacement as part of future parks capital planning.
