County staff report office moves, records scanning and jail-gym grant progress
Summary

During the work session, staff updated the board on a set of administrative and facility tasks tied to a planned office move, records management and a separate jail improvement project.
Staff reported that carpet cleaning and internal wiring work for the relocated offices are complete and that Big Electric finished the wiring. Staff said IT ports remain to be activated but that facilities are prepared to begin moving once boxes are ready.
A staff member said most files have been scanned with volunteer help and that the county will incur shredding costs and needs at least two more bins for destroyed records. Heavy cabinets that contain historic or restricted case files will be moved and handled specially; some cabinets were described as difficult to move and several will remain for legal/records reasons.
Participants also discussed reconfiguring the assessor's space. Staff warned that installing a bulletproof door could reduce door opening size and raised ADA-access concerns tied to framing and clearances, and they discussed fitting the assessor into the new footprint while maintaining required accessibility.
Separately, staff described a grant obtained by Sarah Goddard to convert part of the jail into a gym for deputies. Staff said most equipment has been purchased but remaining tasks include plumbing work and removing expanded-metal drop-ceiling material before the space can be finished.
No votes were taken on these logistical items; staff said they will continue coordinating schedules, obtain itemized estimates where needed, and move forward with the physical shifts and finishing work.
