Committee recommends Detective Hector for Independent Investigation Team

The Clallam County Citizens Advisory Committee voted to recommend OP NET Detective Hector for membership on the region's Independent Investigation Team (IIT) after the sheriff presented his qualifications and the candidate answered two standard screening questions.

Sheriff (name and title provided at the meeting) opened the presentation by walking members through Hector's background, including prior service in the U.S. Coast Guard and law-enforcement training under the state's law enforcement training and community safety act (LaTACSA). The sheriff told the committee that an analysis of Hector's record showed "no pattern of misconduct or sustained findings of misconduct" during his career with the sheriff's office.

Hector described his training and experience during the candidate Q&A: "I put in for a lot of training," he said, citing advanced investigative coursework, homicide investigation training, forensic child-interview training and other courses he said prepared him for detective work. Chair Alan noted the questions were standardized to ensure an even playing field for all candidates.

Committee discussion was brief and procedural. After a motion to recommend Hector for appointment and a second, Chair Alan called for the vote; members voiced support and the motion carried. The committee did not record an individual roll-call vote in the meeting transcript; the minutes reflect the motion was approved.

The recommendation sends Hector forward to the governing board that oversees IIT membership and signals the committee's endorsement pending final administrative steps. Members were reminded that successful IIT members must attend future team trainings and complete conflict-of-interest disclosures required for independent investigations.
