Sheriff says county will award joint public safety facility contract, aims for 14-month build

Sheriff Brian King updated the Citizens Advisory Committee on May 28 about the countys planned joint public safety facility, saying contracts with design and construction partners are in place and that the county expects to issue a letter of intent to the builder this week.
"We have executed contracts with both our, engineer OAC, Hansen Construction, who will be building the facility and, Banner, who is a project management company," the sheriff said, adding that "once that letter goes out, Hansen accepts it. They have a 14 month window to build the facility." He added there could be a shovel in the ground in the next couple of weeks.
King told committee members the project must comply with a FEMA grant and Build America/Buy America sourcing rules. "We have to build America backed act and comply with that... we need to make sure that we're sourcing all materials here in The United States," he said, and added the county will use internal auditing and contractor obligations to meet reporting and auditing requirements.
The sheriff also described communications planning for the new facility: fiber will link dispatch, PINCOM will operate as a parallel backup and the site will be built for roughly 10 console positions to allow future surge capacity and potential co-location by partners such as the National Park Service.
King said adding contracts and outside contracts may reduce user fees by increasing shared operations. He invited committee members to attend the ground‑breaking ceremony and said there will be opportunities for community visibility.
The committee raised no formal objections; no formal procurement votes were recorded in the meeting minutes during the update.
The sheriffs office will continue procurement steps and internal auditing as required by FEMA and will notify the committee of major schedule or contract changes.
