County approves oyster survey renewal, WSU Extension MOA and community paramedics agreement

Clallam County commissioners approved three agreements May 26 that fund natural‑resources monitoring, extension services and an expansion of field‑based public‑health emergency response.
The board authorized a renewal agreement with the Jamestown tribal partner and the County Marine Resources Committee to conduct an annual Olympia oyster population survey in Swinomish/Swim Bay, funding field days, data collection and summer reporting. The motion passed unanimously.
Separately, the county approved a memorandum of agreement with Washington State University Extension for one year to support extension programs including 4‑H, community health programming, waste reduction and master gardener services. Commissioners described the WSU partnership as an important, long‑standing local resource.
Finally, the board approved a two‑year agreement between County Health and Human Services and the Port Angeles Fire Department to maintain two autonomous (independent) community paramedics response units. Commissioners said the units perform field‑based treatment, prevention education and harm‑reduction work across a broad service area and noted the partnership’s role in reducing overdose deaths.
All three items were moved, seconded and adopted by voice vote.
