County staff and department heads urged commissioners to authorize hiring for two newly vacated positions: a service-desk role in Information Technology and a Deputy Public Records Officer.
Monica (S12) described the service-desk position as a frontline role: "We only have 2 service desk people and over 500 people that they work with, so it is critical that we have that position." She said help-desk work occupies 40–60% of frontline IT time, and not filling the vacancy would pull other staff off projects and raise operational risk.
Jesse (S13) reported that public-records requests have increased; he said the office’s tally this day last year was 685 requests, a 36% increase year over year. He warned that litigation over delayed responses to public-records requests is common and noted settlements have ranged from a few hundred dollars to six figures in recent cases.
Commissioners and risk-management staff said filling the Deputy Public Records Officer post is essential for transparency and to reduce litigation risk; commissioners indicated support and directed staff to proceed with recruitment and next steps.
