County staff told commissioners on May 26 that the county has been offered a $757,577 grant under the Clean Buildings Performance Standards program to install a hot-water heat-pump system at the county headquarters.
"Our request has been accepted for $757,577," said the presenter (S7). She said the project is estimated to cost about $1.2 million, with an anticipated utility incentive of roughly $305,000 and about $130,000 in county REIT funds to cover the balance.
The presenter asked the board to authorize someone to accept the award letter within five business days of receipt to secure the grant. Commissioners responded affirmatively during the work session, and staff said they would proceed to accept the award and return to the regular meeting agenda as appropriate.
County officials said the heating system is 16 years old and due for replacement; the new system is expected to reduce utility costs and produce annual savings projected at about $50,000. The presenter also noted a Commerce Department program that provides a consultant to draft federal grant applications and cost-benefit analyses at no charge, which staff said could accelerate other federal grant efforts.
The next procedural step is staff acceptance of the award letter and placement of associated contract or authorization items on a future meeting agenda for any required formal approvals.
