Sequim Wheelers describes adaptive-bike program, new bikes bought with Clallam County foundation grant

Gagan said Sequim Wheelers started in 2018, operates with a board and trained volunteers, and has six bikes in service with two in storage. For 2026 the group received a $20,000 grant from the Ben Phillips Foundation in Clallam County and individual donations (including checks up to $10,000) that together enabled purchase of four adaptive bikes imported from the Netherlands; the four bikes cost $52,000 including transport.
The program emphasizes safety: volunteers complete three training sessions (2.5 hours each) and the organization uses ride leaders, pilots and safety riders to manage groups and crosswalks. Gagan said the group serves local assisted-living and memory-care facilities, works with facility activity directors, and partners with the Olympic Discovery Trail and the Dungeness River Nature Center for starts and finishes.
The group asked for continued partnerships, volunteers, donors and helped publicize a Memorial Day ride scheduled for May 25. Committee members thanked Sequim Wheelers for their work and noted interest in continued coordination with facilities and county services to expand offerings.
